Combination of Nonlinear and Linear Optimization of Transient Gas Networks

چکیده
In this paper, we study the problem of technical transient gas network optimization, which can be considered as a minimum cost flow problem with a nonlinear objective function and additional nonlinear constraints on the network arcs. Applying an implicit box scheme to the isothermal Euler equation, we derive a mixed integer nonlinear program. This is solved by means of a combination of (i) a novel mixed integer linear programming approach based on piecewise linearization and (ii) a classical sequential quadratic program extended with a continuous treatment of combinatorial constraints. Numerical experiments for example problems as well as for a real-life application show that best optimal control solutions can be achieved by a combination of both approaches.

As one of the important energy forms, natural gas consumption has an upward trend in recent years. Therefore management and planning for provision of it requires prediction of the future consumption. But many of prediction procedures are inherently stochastic therefore it is important to have better knowledge about the robustness of prediction procedures. This paper compares robustness of two p...
متن کاملA mathematical model for designing optimal urban gas networks, an ant colony algorithm and a case study
Considering the high costs of the implementation and maintenance of gas distribution networks in urban areas, optimal design of such networks is vital. Today, urban gas networks are implemented within a tree structure. These networks receive gas from City Gate Stations (CGS) and deliver it to the consumers. This study presents a comprehensive model based on Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (...
متن کاملMixed integer linear models for the optimization of dynamical transport networks
We introduce a mixed integer linear modeling approach for the optimization of dynamic transport networks based on the piecewise linearization of nonlinear constraints and we show how to apply this method by two examples, transient gas and water supply network optimization. We state the mixed integer linear programs for both cases and provide numerical evidence for their suitability.
